Glossy Neutral Mug with Stove Ash - Gas-fired
Wheel-thrown mug thrown in a Cornish clay, glazed in a glossy white and sprinkled with stove ash from my studio.
This piece is fired in a gas kiln, in a reduction atmosphere. By controlling the amount of oxygen the kiln receives, unique and highly varied results can be achieved, resulting in distinctive colours and textures and speckles. Ash melts at high temperatures and can create unique textures and colours.
However these cups can be used for tea, coffee, or cold drinks. Simply hold the cup by the rim and base ring for boiling hot drinks.
